Crawfish SeasonKajun crawfish are harvested from ponds in Louisiana that are normally used for rice farming. The second crawfish the deep water crawfish is farmed from rivers or Bayous. The following is the cycle used to fish the Cajun crawfish. Jul - Aug Forage crops are planted or natural vegetation like Rice is allowed to grow. Sep - Nov Pond flooded with water and monitored. Nov - Dec Harvest when catch can be economically and justified and continued thru July 4th. Harvests typically range from less than 200 pounds an acre to more than 1,200 pounds. The typical types of crawfish are the Red Crawfish and the White River Crawfish. There is very little difference in the taste of the two. The White River crawfish are pink in color and sell for less than the Red Crawfish. (Try both types and decide for yourself.) THE SEASON IS NOW CLOSED. |
